An Essential Ingredient In Being An Effective Sales Leader

Being an effective sales leader takes a lot of work.

I was pretty burnt out.  I had been pouring all I had into my business.  I had been giving everything I had to motivate everyone else.  Yet, I wasn’t necessarily getting the same amount of energy pumped back into me.

And it showed.

It showed in my attitude.  It showed in my performance.  It also started to take away from my relationships and life outside of work.

Right when I thought I had nothing left, I found myself at conference down in Orlando.  I really wasn’t that excited about going.  It was going to take me away from my business for a week.  It was going to be a decent financial investment.

I was actually finding myself trying to find reasons why I didn’t need to go.  Almost as far as to justify why it wasn’t a good decision to go.

Thank God I was unsuccessful in talking myself out of going.

What I found were all the things I needed.  Once the five days were done I was ready to tackle the world.  I was fired up, resourced, and equipped to go back and serve my clients, my team, and my business better.

It also reminded me how crucial these types of events are to the success of any effective sales leader.

Whenever you are pursuing a goal, you ultimately want results.  Many times you start something because you have seen at least a glimpse of what the end will look like.  You were inspired and excited by what that goal would do for you and your business.

But in order to get there, it requires us to consistently engage in activities.

If you aren’t seeing the results you want generally you can trace it back to the lack of activities you are engaged in.  You disengage for a number of reasons:  lack of motivation, clarity of purpose for the activities, or disbelief in the activities are a few.

Attending the live events can help you overcome all of that.

During these live events, the speakers will usually give you examples of the activities they used to grow their business.  The easiest way gain success in an area is copy what someone that has success in that area is doing and just copy it.

This is exactly what I’ve done to get the results I’ve achieved in any business.  I’m not the best at creating solutions.  I’m just really good and copying what others and doing and executing it.

You can literally get a blue print of the right activities you need to do to be successful at these events.  Plus you’ll hear the stories of how it’s worked for them.  This will then feed your belief (more about that below).  Belief will give you the fuel you need to do activities that you aren’t currently doing.

“All growth depends on activity.  There is development physically or intellectually with out effort, and effort means work.” – Calvin Coolidge

If you take great notes and use 30 minutes after each day to reflect, you will be able to come up with a new plan utilizing the right activities that can get you on track to start getting results.

When I first set out to start this business I knew I could do it.  I had seen some significant results and I was gaining great traction.  But I didn’t see the results as quickly and in the magnitude that I wanted so I started to get frustrated.  This in turn started messing with my belief.

“Well can I really do this?”  “Do I really have what it takes?”  “If I’m not getting these big results yet, will it ever happen?”

While I was at the event I started talking to some real heavy hitters in the industry and learned that when they started they experienced similar problems.

Now they all have seven figure businesses.

“If they can do it so can I.”

“Beliefs have the power to create and the power to destroy.  Human beings have the awesome ability to take any experience in their lives and create meaning disempowers them or one that can literally save their lives.” – Tony Robbins
This message is something that you will consistently hear at these live events.  It is so true!

Think about it.

Many times you have given up pursuing a goal because somewhere along the way you stopped believing you could do it.  This then caused you to stop engaging in the activities that give you results.  This is turn feeds doubt instead of belief.

Tony Robins wrote an article on how our belief plays a dramatic part in our success.  What we believe will directly determine the activities we engage in.

Listening to stories of people that are just like you, that face the same challenges you face, and still see success gives you hope.  It feeds your faith and helps you see that you can do this.  Going to live events places you smack dab in the middle of this type of environment.

This is a powerful momentum builder.  It will gives you the energy boost you need to get engaged or re-engaged in the right activities.  These activities will lead you back to results you need to continue to reinforce your belief.

A huge part of your success in an achieving any goal, are the people you surround yourself with.  If you want to know the kind of results you will have in life, just look at the results of the top 5 people you spend your time with.

If you want to start seeing results, find the people who have the results you want and start spending time with them.  You find yourself doing the things they do, thinking the way the do, and ultimately living the way they do.

One of the things that John said during one of his sessions was “if the people you hang out with aren’t helping you get to where you want to go, then you need to find some different people to hang out with.”

At this last event, I was able to meet some really great people.  These people are doing the same things I am in business.  They face the same challenges.  They have also had great success.  They will become some people that I will be able to bounce ideas off of to help my business as well as give them insight to areas they are struggling with.

That’s what it’s all about.  Helping each other get to where you want to go.

The great speaker and trainer Zig Ziglar said “When you help other people get what they want, eventually you’ll get what you want.”

Here’s something else to consider.

Often your goals are going to be far bigger than you.  You were not meant to achieve them on your own.  Human beings were designed to be a part of a community.  By being a part of a community, you have access to resources and talents that you might not possess yourself that are needed to get you to your goal.

I have invested thousands of dollars into live events.  What I have received in return has FAR exceeded my investment.  It’s been a crucial piece in my success.

What is last live event you attended to help you with your goals?  What were some of the benefits you found by attending?  I’d love to hear from you.  Please put your comments below.
